This Absolutely Was an Extremely Special Party

We don't do big parties every year in our family and really we are trying to work out how often we do have them. We do however work to a theme most years and we do have family and one special friend over for a little party/ get together for afternoon tea. Seeing family makes for a lovely time celebrating together.

From my last blog post you would know that Miss M turned 4 on Friday so yesterday we had her Charlie and Lola afternoon tea party. This was a great theme to work with as everything to do with Charlie and Lola is so cute. (My favourite and my best!) I researched the books and came up with a list of foods Charlie and Lola eat. We had donuts, triangle sandwiches, pink milk and choc chip biscuits and of course a Charlie and Lola cake.

We played totem tennis like they play in 'My Picnic Sticker Book' and the kids all took home party bags made to look like the ones Lola makes in 'It's Actually My Party'. They were filled with marbles, toy dinosaurs and other fun things found in 'My Collecting Sticker Book'.

All the Charlie and Lola goodies such as the table cloths, napkins, cups, balloons and bubbles came from Pink Milk in the UK but I actually had the extremely good idea to cut the side off one of the table cloths (where it overlapped) to decorate the cake board and make some bunting.

It was actually an extremely lovely afternoon.

What a wonderful party. Creating themed parties is so much fun. I didn't realise our girls were so close in age. Savvy turned four today (our girls are three days apart). Savvy is now fast asleep after a wonderful day of celebrating.

The cake you had is gorgeous. I was also going to ask the same question as Christie!

Don't you just love when you come up with an idea that seems so simple, but is very effective.

You sure did create a memorable party and included so many fun details.

Happy belated 4th birhtday to Miss M.

Thanks Christy and Elise! I did make the cake but then having Charlie and Lola meant two cakes!! It took a lot of time to ice and decorate. Do you both decorate your kids cakes? As I said on fb on Friday, I have a love hate relationship with decorating birthday cakes. It's not so fun (for me) but I like to give it a go.

Wow, happy birthday to Savvy! I bet she's one tired girl. Miss M has been very tired since Friday. All that party fun. What did you do to celebrate Elise? Will we see a blog post?

Hey, we love what you did for the party. It looked amazing - so much so that it almost feels like and honour that we played a small part! Really fantastic.

Thanks from Pink Milk!

Thank you Mark. We loved all the Charlie and Lola party supplies and the service was wonderful. We couldn't wait to get our package in the mail and it absolutely made the party that much more extremely special for Miss M.

Happy Birthday to your big girl! They grow too fast don't they! The party looks amazing and that cake - WOW! I have a love/hate relationship with birthday cakes too. You just have to do them though.

Aww thanks Brooke and Janice.

It's funny isn't it Brooke, we struggle through icing the cake and say, "next year it will be a lot easier" but we still go back to doing the cakes ourselves. He he..

Miss H's b'day is in a few weeks and I'm already thinking which themed cake she will have. At least it's more my choice this time....for the last time, I would imagine.

Loooove the cake Amanda. You are amazing supermum!! Charlie and Lola is fantastic. I adore the pictures and the writing and the accent on the show!! "Chaaah-lee and Lowla". I read the other day that Laura Child the creator based it all on someone she knew and that the mum used to make pink milk with a drop of food colouring!! So there was no flavour - it was just a gimmick to get her to drink special milk. :) Once again - very impressive cake. It is perfection. Well done.
