My two girls are 3.9 and 20 months old so on one hand I have a "big girl" who likes to create "by herself". She draws and draws and draws while Miss H on the other hand also likes to draw but would draw on things other than paper or cardboard if given the chance. Because of this, our art supplies are stored in various places but mainly up on top of the toy shelves, in stacked large containers in a hidden spot or in the kitchen. Miss M can ask for her art equipment at any time and knows that it has to go back once she is finished. Miss H can also ask to use the art equipment but it is mostly used with mine or daddy's supervision. We usually do messy art activities at the blue table, on the easel or even in the yard together.
I dream of the day when I can have an art trolley or shelving at kids height. It would be filled with equipment for all kinds of art and made available for them and their friends to use all day long. I don't think I'm too far away from that.
Our art space changes as it is part of the play room. I like to display the girls artwork on the walls. We move the easel and table around to follow the sun or space and we add new things to create with every now and again.
So here it is!

What a fantastic space for your kids! As a fellow Brisbanite can I ask where you got your water trough? I love these kindy type items but are never sure where to find them. I've also been eyeing off your kid's kitchen in previous posts. I might need a daughter first though before I'm allowed one...hehe.
Hi Brooke! There's a bit of a story with the water trough. It is great isn't it. I used to work as a kids worker in a big church. Just before I finished working there to become a SAHM I purchased the water trough. It would have had lots of use except that the water restrictions came in. Week after week I watched it sitting so one day I plucked up the courage to ask the new kids worker if I could buy it from them. She said that I could have it. Yippee for me!! (and my girls!) I think it originally would have come from MTA - Modern Teaching Aides. The brand is Edupalytional Toys for Tots.
The kitchen is rather cute! Think it was more my kitchen when we purchased it. He he he! It's a Target one and I've noticed they've changed their design slightly.

Thanks Amanda. I got to thinking and I have a nice trough sized container from Ikea that I could re-purpose. I like the idea of playing with pasta in it.
Brooke, your idea is fantastic! I also saw some water/ sand troughs on sale for $15 at Coles last week. Not sure if they are still there.
