A Little Bit of Easter Creativity

The girlies and I are in the middle of making some beautiful paper mache Easter eggs, just for fun. We've added our first few layers of newspaper, in preparation for the final two layers which will be white paper, followed by our final layer of choice. I'll pop by the blog tomorrow to show you how they end up looking.

To Make Something From Paper Mache...

Use Cel mix glue or kids PVA glue as they both dry clear. PVA gets pretty messy so be prepared to work quickly and clean it up straight away. Remember paper mache glue in the old days? Flour + water = glue, not so good for this activity if we'd like to look at them again next year.

Tear up strips of paper. You can use any type really. We could have started with our good paper but I'd prefer to waste newspaper rather than good wrapping paper.

Start by using your finger to spread the glue onto the desired shape...eg: a balloon. In our case we have used Styrofoam eggs from the craft shop. Notice the skewar in the bottom of the egg? That's so the air can get all around and dry the glue. We don't want our eggs sticking to the table top.

Add the strips of paper one at a time until the shape is covered and keep using your finger and glue to smooth down the edges.

Only do a few layers of paper mache at a time to give your work time to dry. You can always return and do a little each day until your project is finished.

Paper Mache is a messy process and can be a bit tricky for little fingers but the end product can look really special. I can't wait to finish ours off!

Five Super Things to Do This Easter

The holidays are finally here for our little family but we won't be going too far from home. Making the choice to be a SAHM doesn't always allow us to afford time away but it doesn't mean that we have to miss out on the fun all together. Here's some ideas we have for this Easter break....

1 Find a great park for a play. These parks are asking for Brissy kids to come and have some fun - Neal Macrossan Park in Paddington, Oriel Park in Ascot and Grande Park in Springfield. They are definitely three of our favourite parks.

2 Have a family egg and spoon race. Boil up some eggs(or not) and decorate them to have a race around the yard. We have the plastic ELC set which is just as fun...and not as messy to clean up after.

3 Enjoy a picnic dinner in a beautiful spot. You'll have to wait to see where we will go.

4 Get outside. Go for a bike ride, dig in the garden, paddle in a pool. Be sure to check out the incredibly beautiful ideas over at Childhood101. I feel inspired!

5 Check out the Easter story again and reflect on Jesus' great love for us.

Whatever you do this Easter, have a wonderful and safe family time.

Hello!

Ice-creams at Picnic Point, Toowoomba

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted on Busy Busy Mum! I guess I lost my blogging voice for a little while. Things have changed a lot round here so I've had to work at finding the time to fit my usual family fun and blogging time into the new routine life has thrown at us.

The year started off in an unexpected way with the floods happening so close to home, in our two streets and the neighbourhood (we live on a corner block). Miss M's kindy was flood damaged terribly but we can now look forward to starting back at the "new old" kindy for the start of term two. What a blessing! So much generosity, so much kindness and a great deal of team work has got us there.

I'm finally back to blogging and have a few fun things up my sleeve to get the ball rolling again. I'm also working on another project which should be up and running very soon. I can't wait to share it with you! Sometimes my creative brain works overtime so this should be a great avenue to put it to good use.

I look forward to catching up with you all and sharing fun times this year. Have a wonderful Easter.

What have you been up to?
